SHIRA ROUTE
Trekking Overview
The Shira Route it runs parallel to the Lemosho trail at the beginning but starts much higher up. The Shira Route meets up with the Machame Route at Shira 2 Camp. It is also known as the original Londorosi trail where registration is done at Londorosi gate followed by driving to an elevation of 3720m from here you will now start your trekking.
Day 01: Kilimanjaro International Airport - Arusha
On arrival at the airport after customs and immigration formalities you will be met and transferred to Arusha and if time allows you will be met by Kili trekking crew for briefing also for checking climbing gears.

Day 02: Arusha – Londorosi Gate – Forest Camp (Altitude 2800m) (trekking hours 3-4)
After breakfast drive to Londorosi gate for registration formalities then drive to the Lemosho trailhead where you will start the trekking through undisturbed forest with your lunch boxes to be provided on the way to forest camp for overnight.
Day 03: Forest Camp – Shira Camp 1 – Shira Camp 2 (Altitude 3800m) (trekking hours 6-8)
After breakfast you will proceed on the path taking you out of the forest and into a savannah of tall grasses, heather and volcanic rock draped with lichen beards. As you ascend through the lush rolling hills, you will then reach to Shira 1 camp. The view of Kibo from across the plateau is amazing from here it’s a moderate walk east toward Kibo’s glaciered peak, across the plateau to Shira 2 camp.
Day 04: Shira 2 Camp – Lava – Barranco Camp (Altitude 3900m) (trekking hours 6-8)
From the Shira Plateau, proceed to east up a ridge, passing the junction to Kibo peak as you take to the South East to Lava Tower up to the Arrow Glacier then continue down to the Barranco Hut and your day will be ending up at Barranco Camp.
Day 05: Barranco Camp – Karanga Camp – Barafu Camp (Altitude 4600m) (trekking hours 3-5)
Today the path will become steeply out of the Barranco Valley where crosses the Karanga Valley, then turns north to reach Barafu Hut. Overnight stay at Barafu Camp.
Day 06: Ascent to Summit (5895m) / Mweka Camp (Altitude 3200m) (trekking hours 12-14)
At mid night you will be awaken by your guides and mountain crews for a light breakfast and summit ascent, enjoy couple of minutes at the summit but depends on the weather. Descend back to Barafu Camp for brunch and continue down to Mweka Camp for the dinner and overnight.
Day 07: Mweka Camp - Mweka Gate then Arusha (trekking hours 3-4)
After breakfast descend down to Mweka Gate through the rain forest, where on arrival you will check out and rewarded certificates then you will be having a farewell celebration with climbing crew. After that you will drive to Arusha where a warm shower and a comfortable bed will be waiting for you.

Day 08: Arusha - Safari / Kilimanjaro International Airport
After breakfast you will have an option of proceeding on safari in Northern circuit or leisure in Zanzibar or transferred to airport for your onward flight to your next destination.
