MARANGU ROUTE
Trekking Overview
One of the oldest, well established route which is also known as the “Coca-Cola” route, the Marangu route is a classic trek as it is considered to be the easiest trail on the mountain. It is also the only route which offers sleeping huts in dormitory style accommodations from Mandara – Kibo. The minimum days needed for this route is five although the probability of successfully reaching to the top is quite low so we can recommend to add an extra day for acclimatization.
Day 01: Kilimanjaro International Airport - Arusha
On arrival at the airport you will be met and transfer to Arusha for overnight stay
Dinner and overnight
- Overnight : Venus Premier Hotel – deluxe room

Day 02: Arusha – Marangu gate – Mandara hut (altitude 2680m) (trekking hours – 4 – 5)
After early breakfast you will be met by your mountain guides for pre – climb briefing also checking climbing gears then drive to Marangu gate for registration thereafter you will start your trekking by ascending through beautiful rain forest to Mandara hut for overnight stay.
Day 03: Mandara hut – Horombo hut (altitude 3700m) (trekking hours – 6 – 8)
After breakfast you will proceed walking through the forest until the route opens into high moorland, if weather persist you may see the views of Kibo and Mawenzi peaks. Overnight stay at Horombo hut
Day 04: Horombo hut – Mawenzi – Horombo hut (altitude 4300m) (trekking hours – 3 – 5)
This is acclimatization day where you will utilize it to Mawenzi ridge, after spending a few moments you will be heading back to Horombo hut for overnight stay.
Day 05: Horombo hut – Kibo hut (altitude 4675m) (trekking hours – 6 – 8)
You will trek slowly across the lunar desert of the “saddle” between Mawenzi and Kibo to Kibo hut where you will be ending up your day by leisure followed by early dinner also summit ascent briefing from your guides..
Day 06: Kibo hut – Summit (5,895m) / Horombo Hut (3,700m) (trekking hours – 12 – 14)
At mid night you will be awaken by your guides and mountain crews for a light breakfast and summit ascent, enjoy couple of minutes at the summit but depends on the weather. Descend back to Kibo hut for brunch and continue down to Horombo Hut for the dinner and overnight
Day 07: Horombo Hut – Marangu gate – Arusha (trekking hours 6-7)
A stable descent takes us down through tropical rain forest and once we reach at Marangu gate, we collect our summit certificates. Then we will be met our driver who will drive to Arusha for hot shower and celebration of the achievement.

Day 08: Arusha - Safari / Kilimanjaro International Airport
After breakfast, morning at leisure then you will be transferred to Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) for your flight back home
