Trekking Overview

The Umbwe Route is less crowded route on the mountain, it is also the most difficult route on the mountain. This route should only be attempted by those who are very strong and are confident in their ability to acclimatize.

Day 01: Kilimanjaro International Airport - Arusha

On arrival at the airport you will be met and transfer to Arusha for overnight stay

Dinner and overnight
Day 02: Arusha – Umbwe Gate – Umbwe Camp (Altitude 2280m) (trekking hours 5 – 8)

After early breakfast you will be met by your mountain guides for Kili Climb briefing also checking your gears before driving to Umbwe Gate via Machame gate for registration formalities. On arrival you will start your trekking to Umbwe Camp for dinner and overnight.

Day 03: Umbwe Camp – Barranco Camp (Altitude 3950m) (trekking hours 4-6)

After breakfast you will start the trekking where the trail gets a little steeper as you get out of the forest, you will require to uphill a rock, as we gain elevation, glimpses of Kilimanjaro can be seen. The path flattens as we approach Barranco Valley, from Umbwe ridge, the route descends to Barranco Camp where will be our second stop over.

Day 04: Barranco Camp – Karanga Camp (Altitude 4000m) (trekking hours 4 – 5)

We will have acclimatization day by descending into a ravine to the base of the Great Barranco Wall where from the top of the Barranco Wall we cross a sequence of hills and valleys until we descend into Karanga Valley heading to Karanga Camp where we will end up our today’s journey.

Day 05: Karanga Camp – Barafu Camp (altitude 4,500) (trekking hours – 4 – 5)

After breakfast, we start our trekking to Barafu camp. It’s a little bit steep trek at the beginning then gradual camp. On arrival at camp you will have an early briefing then along rest before for the summit ascent.

Day 06: Barafu Camp – Uhuru Peak (5895m) – Millennium /Mweka Camp (trekking hours 12-14)

At mid night you will be awaken by your guides and mountain crews for a light breakfast and summit ascent, enjoy couple of minutes at the summit but depends on the weather. Descend back to Barafu Camp for brunch and continue down to Mweka Camp for the dinner and overnight.

Day 07: Mweka Camp to the Gate then Arusha (trekking hours 3-4)

After breakfast descend down to Mweka Gate through the rain forest, where on arrival you will check out and rewarded certificates then you will be having a farewell celebration with climbing crew. After that you will drive to Arusha where a warm shower and a comfortable bed will be waiting for you.

Dinner and overnight
Day 08: Arusha - Safari / Kilimanjaro International Airport

After breakfast, you will have a free day with an option of participating our safari schedule if times allows or you will be transferred to airport for your onward flight to your next destination.
