Trekking Overview

Lemosho route recognized as one of the Londorosi route crosses over the collapsed volcanic crater known as Shira Plateau. A minimum of 7 days to attempt this route however we recommend 8 days in order to have extra day for acclimatization and summit success. The trail connect to Machame route at Shira 2 Camp and then follows the same route through the southern circuit and descending at Mweka Gate.

 

Day 01: Kilimanjaro International Airport - Arusha

On arrival at the airport after customs and immigration formalities you will be met and transferred to Arusha and if time allows you will be met by Kili trekking crew for briefing also for checking climbing gears

Day 02: Arusha – Londorosi Gate / Lemosho – Forest Camp (altitude 2,870) (trekking hours – 3-4)

Breakfast at your lodge, then you will depart to Londorosi gate for registration, after than you will start our climb steadily through the forests of the Lemosho glades to reach Forest camp where you will be spending the night.

Day 03: Forest Camp – Shira 1 Camp (altitude 3,500) (trekking hours – 7 – 8)

Today you will trek across a plateau of grassy moorland and heather scattered with volcanic rock formations. Our destination for today is the Shira 1 Camp where we will spend a night while you are here you can get often views of Kibo peak.

Day 04: Shira 1 Camp – Shira 2 Camp (altitude 3,840) (trekking hours –6 – 7)

After breakfast we will get the chance to view the Northern Ice fields from the western side of the mountain with some scarce views of Kibo. Our steady climb across the moorland of the Shira Plateau will help with acclimatization and we enjoy great panoramic views. Our day will end up at Shira 2 Camp where we will overnight also have couple hours for acclimatization.

Day 05: Shira 2 Camp – Barranco Camp (altitude 3,900) (trekking hours 6 – 7)

A morning of gentle ascent and panoramic views, leaving the moorland plateau behind to walk on lava ridges beneath the glaciers of the Western Breach. After lunch near the Lava Tower junction, we descend to the bottom of the Great Barranco, sheltered by towering cliffs and with extensive views of the plains far below.

Day 06: Barranco Camp – Karanga Camp (altitude 4,100) (trekking hours – 3 – 4)

Your hike today will take you to Karanga valley, the trail first sets of downhill into the Barranco valley before ascending the Barranco wall. In this area there are significant numbers of very mature scenarios. You will have your lunch at the camp where after that you will have plenty of time for resting or optional of acclimatization walk in the afternoon up the valley.

Day 07: Karanga Camp – Barafu Camp (altitude 4,500) (trekking hours – 3 – 4)

After breakfast, we start our trekking to Barafu camp. It’s a little bit steep trek at the beginning then gradual camp. On arrival at camp you will have an early briefing then along rest before for the summit ascent.

Day 08: Barafu Camp – Uhuru Peak (5895m) – Millennium /Mweka Camp (trekking hours 12-14)

At mid night you will be awaken by your guides and mountain crews for a light breakfast and summit ascent, enjoy couple of minutes at the summit but depends on the weather. Descend back to Barafu Camp for brunch and continue down to Mweka Camp for the dinner and overnight.

Day 09: Mweka Camp to the Gate then Arusha (trekking hours 3-4)

After breakfast descend down to Mweka Gate through the rain forest, where on arrival you will check out and rewarded certificates then you will be having a farewell celebration with climbing crew. After that you will drive to Arusha where a warm shower and a comfortable bed will be waiting for you. Dinner and overnight

Day 10: Arusha – Kilimanjaro International Airport

After breakfast, you will have a free day with an option of participating our safari schedule if times allows or you will be transferred to airport for your onward flight to your next destination.
